Planning Portable Mini Golf for Your Event: Indoor vs Outdoor & Space Requirements
Planning to include portable mini golf at your next event? One of the first things you'll need to consider is how much space you have and whether your setup will be indoors or outdoors.
The good news is that portable mini golf can work in a wide range of event spaces. From conference rooms and exhibition areas to outdoor lawns and corporate functions, the setup can be tailored to suit your venue.
At Patrick Putts, we provide portable mini golf hire across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, with 3, 6 and 9 hole packages as well as custom setups available.
Indoor vs Outdoor Mini Golf
Portable mini golf can be set up both indoors and outdoors, depending on the venue and available space.
Indoor Mini Golf
Indoor setups can be a great option for:
Conferences
Exhibition halls
Function rooms
Workplace events
Shopping centres
Corporate activations
Indoor events also provide the advantage of being protected from weather, which can be particularly useful when planning an event well in advance.
If required, we can also provide foam balls for indoor events, making them a suitable option for venues where standard golf balls aren't appropriate.
When considering an indoor setup, the main things to check are the available floor space, access to the area and whether there is a clear path for bringing the equipment into the venue.
Outdoor Mini Golf
Outdoor mini golf can work particularly well for:
Corporate functions
Christmas and end of year events
Staff days
Weddings
Festivals
School events
Community events
Grass and other suitable flat outdoor surfaces can provide plenty of flexibility for larger setups.
If you're planning an outdoor event, it's also worth considering a wet weather option. While our mini golf is weather-resistant, having a suitable alternative location or contingency plan can make event planning easier.
How Much Space Do You Need for Mini Golf?
There isn't one fixed space requirement for every mini golf setup. The amount of space you'll need depends on the number and type of holes selected, the venue layout and how you want guests to move around the course.
Check out the dimensions of each of our courses here.
Choosing the Right Space
When planning your mini golf setup, the total floor area isn't the only consideration.
You'll also want to think about:
A flat surface: The course needs a suitable, relatively flat area for the holes to sit correctly.
Guest flow: Leave enough room for people to move between holes, watch others play and access the course without creating bottlenecks.
Other event elements: Consider tables, seating, catering, stages and other entertainment when deciding where to position the course.
Access: We need to be able to get the equipment from the unloading area to where the course will be set up. If your event space is upstairs, lift or suitable ramp access is preferred, particularly for our larger Premium course, due to the size and weight of the equipment. The Premium course cannot be taken up or down stairs by Patrick Putts staff, so flat access or suitable lift/ramp access is required.
Visibility: If the mini golf is being used as an activation or entertainment feature, positioning it somewhere visible can help encourage people to participate.
Indoor and Outdoor Event Setup
We've provided mini golf in a range of different environments, from conference and exhibition spaces to outdoor lawns and rooftop venues.
The best option depends on your venue, available space and what you want the activity to achieve.
We Handle Delivery, Setup and Pack Down
Once you've worked out where the mini golf will go, you don't need to worry about setting it up yourself.
Delivery, full setup and pack down are included with our mini golf hire.
We'll work with you to confirm the setup area and access requirements, arrive at the agreed time and have everything ready for your guests. Once your event is finished, we'll return to pack everything away.
This makes portable mini golf an easy addition to corporate events, conferences, Christmas parties and other functions without creating another setup job for the organiser.
Customise Your Mini Golf Setup
Our standard packages are available in 3, 6 and 9 holes, but we're not limited to those options.
If your venue has an unusual layout or you need a specific number of holes, we can provide a tailored quote and custom configuration around your requirements.
We can also add custom course branding and scorecards, which can be particularly useful for corporate events, conferences, exhibitions and brand activations.
For events running across multiple days, multi-day hire options are also available.
Planning Portable Mini Golf for Your Event
Whether you're planning an indoor conference, an outdoor Christmas party, a corporate staff day or a large public event, portable mini golf can be adapted to suit a wide range of venues.
The key things to consider are:
How much suitable space is available
Whether the setup will be indoors or outdoors
The type and condition of the surface
Guest flow around the course
Access for delivery and setup
The number of holes that will best suit your event
If you're not sure what will work in your space, send us the dimensions, photos or details of your venue and we can help determine a suitable setup.
